WHO WE ARE
FOCUS MULAGO Child Development Center Project (FMCDP) is a department of FOCUS Uganda that exists to support vulnerable children exploits their full potential using the available resources to impact the community. The department exists to express compassion through meeting the needs of those around us; demonstrating the love of Christ.
The child is used as an entry point into the family and the wider community.
The FOCUS Mulago Child Project is working with the slum communities of Mulago, Kalerwe, Katanga, Bwayise, Nsooba, Kamokya and Kyebando. The Child Project has supported more than 2,000 children and families since her inception in 1992. Currently, the Project is working with 195 children. The Lord in His mercy and kindness keeps adding unto us day by day.
OUR ROOTS
In 1989, FOCUS offices moved from Nakulabye to Mulago where it acquired property. FOCUS then faced a challenge of living among the very needy in a community which is a typical slum area. Prevalent problems were drunkenness, illiteracy, ignorance, disease, crime, broken families, poor upbringing and negligence of children, unwanted children and pregnancies, poor housing, low levels of employment and living which all leads to a poor life for a slum dweller.
In such a community, children are the most disadvantaged. They are the naked, hungry, illiterate, abused and neglected. These children are either orphans, or living in very poor families, abusive homes or living a life that has been severely affected by HIV/AIDS. Increasingly many live in single parent/guardians’ homes and others in child headed homes.

It was realized that to reach the Mulago community, there was a need to provide material and financial support to be able to help the disadvantaged in the community and more so children. It was and still is true that these children and many more like them are the future leaders of our Church and society. Transformation of these children means transformation of our church, society and nation tomorrow.
Its on the basis of this that FOCUS is reaching out to the Mulago slum community with the holistic gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to improve its levels of living using the child as the entry point.

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
To train a child in the knowledge and fear of the LORD so that inner spiritual and moral transformation may lead to better decision making, a better life, and the ability to positively impact his or her community. Proverbs 22:6
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
A child is helped to realize that it is possible to contribute to his or her needs through working. The project teaches the child not to look down on certain jobs which the uneducated do as the child is able to raise money through these jobs. The children are taught some livelihood skills at the project which can be used to generate income for the child and the family.
